Engage is a mini conference. Click here to watch a one minute video that capures the heart of this conference.
Three sessions will cover:
Shapers of the world.
We will start in Genesis to look at the mandate God gave man with the focus on “dressing and keeping” (Gen 2: 15). God “kickstarted” the creation and as His co-creators we are engaging in the ongoing process of dressing and keeping; we are the shapers of Culture. In the culture we find ourselves living in, and part of, only vague and obscure artefacts can be traced back to what can be called the Kingdom culture.
Is it a lost battle and are we to make the best of it or do we embrace and engage in a pro-active way to creatively represent and implement the Kingdom culture in our lives and work.
Culture and Individualism
The world around us seems to be obsessed with the idea of finding and being the “real me”, to “be authentic”, to be “true to oneself” and what not. Looking for identity markers within themselves that are to answer the question “Who am I, and how do I express my “true self” it is clear that the more important question “what is man” is taken for granted or overlooked. The question “who am I” can only properly addressed after establishing the “what am I” question. This session builds on the first one as a deeper understanding of “what I am” will illuminate and stress the importance of the mandate given to me shapers of the world; stewards of culture. We will be looking at 5 external identity markers, taken from the first two chapters in Genesis
Rebels with a cause
This will be around the bigger theme of being the movers and shakers where we are (our Jerusalem) and beyond, to represent Jesus and the Kingdom of God. Making a difference with the idea of re-creation in mind. That hope should excite us, fan into the flame of living the reality of the Gospel here, there and everywhere, and fill us with anticipation. Commitment and Celebration are the key words here.
One way to organise the miniconference is start Saturday mid-afternoon, have a meal together and do the second sessions in the evening. The third session could be the Sunday morning service and, even though it is part of a trhee chapter story, it is also a message in ints own right.
Many other formats are possible.
